Ballet - The foundation of dance in which elements can be found in all styles. Ballet focuses on the more intricate movement and technical aspect of the art.
Pointe - Dancers that are highly proficient in ballet will progress to pointe shoes. The dancer must have a strong foundation prior to beginning pointe to avoid sustaining an injury. Eligibility for this class is at the discretion of the director.
Contemporary - This newer style of dance mainly focuses on unexpected elements of choreography and self expression simultaneously with a technical base at its roots.
Jazz - Typically set to upbeat music, this class combines classical jazz, commercial jazz, and jazz funk elements, along with the use of isolation to develop precision of movement.
Tap - This style of dance utilizes metal taps attached to the toe and heel of the shoe which strike the floor in a variety of combinations to create sound along with the interpretive movement of the upper body.
Hip-Hop - Combining elements of jazz funk, popping, locking, and breaking, this style is typically performed to high-energy music with a definitive beat.
Tumbling - This class focuses solely on acrobatic movement and can range from handstands to handsprings and from chin stands to extreme flexibility and bending of the body.
Self-Choreography - Although all levels will participate in various improv exercises throughout the year, this class is only offered to our Elite Level dancers. In self-choreography, dancers will be given tasks to create their own work at home and showcase it in front of the class. As a class project, dancers will have to teach their own work to the class to begin learning how to instruct and verbally explain their choreography.
